Some students about to start college may think that college life means no longer having a social life or any type of fun. College is filled with classes, homework, exams, quizzes, and studying ten times harder than high school. Sometimes students don’t realize, though, that college can also be a fun place to be. It can become a second home for all those students that take so many credits, and end up spending a lot of time on campus.
When I first started going to LCC I didn’t have any friends and I wasn’t involved in any activities. All I did was go to my class and once I was done I went straight back home. I had no idea that LCC had interesting events planned for each quarter. Most of those events take place in the Student Center—where the cafeteria is located. One of the best ways to find out about upcoming events on campus is by checking the LCC webpage, or by checking the Student Center sandwich board.
Getting involved in extra-curricular events gives your brain a chance to release stress; also, it’s a great way to meet people and keep socializing. One of the upcoming events that I recommend attending is the standup comedian Sammy Obeid. He is coming Saturday February 1st from 7pm-8pm in the Rose Center. Sammy Obeid was on season seven of America’s Got Talent and got eliminated in the Las Vegas round. So, if you have no plans on Saturday feel free to stop by. Tickets are free for students, so make sure you have your student ID card with you. Also, one of the biggest upcoming events on campus this quarter is the Cultural Family Night on Thursday, February 20th in the Student Center from 6pm-8pm. This year there are five countries represented (Kuwait, Turkey, Lebanon, Morocco, and Egypt). It’s a great way to have fun and learn more about different cultural backgrounds. There will be Lebanese food, a Belly Dancer, Moroccan Tea, and much more.
The events offered this quarter are great, so if you need a break, make sure you check the LCC webpage for activities that interest you and be a part of them. I made it to every event that was held at LCC, not only because they’re fun, but because I know those are the moments I will cherish the most when I graduate. College life can really be what you want it to be!
